Population Growth Driven by Immigration

Galicia’s population increased by 3,821 people in the last quarter of 2024, reaching 2,715,424 inhabitants as of January 1, 2025. This growth is primarily due to the arrival of 5,524 foreign nationals, a 3.3% increase. Conversely, the number of Galicians with Spanish nationality decreased by 0.06% (1,703 people). Nationally, Spain’s population rose by 115,612 people (0.23%) during the same period, largely due to immigration from countries like Colombia, Venezuela, and Morocco. In annual terms, Spain experienced a population increase of 458,289 people, setting a historical record. The largest population increases among autonomous communities were recorded in Melilla, Comunidad Valenciana, Madrid, and Catalonia.
